Ethical Child Savings Plan
Ethical, affordable child savings account that's tax
efficient too
Build up a lump sum for your child's future - without having to
pay Income or Capital Gains Tax. It could be a great help towards
funding a gap year, buying a first car or putting some money down
on a flat. And because it's an ethical plan, we aim to avoid
investing in companies that are believed to be harmful to the
environment, people, animals or wildlife. It's worth noting that
our Ethical Child Savings Plan can be held in addition to a Child
Trust Fund, or on its own and is suitable as a mid to long term
savings plan.
Avoid paying tax on your child's savings
|
- You can count on making the most of your child's savings as
there's no Capital Gains Tax or Income Tax to pay.
- Only a friendly society like us can give you these tax
advantages through this type of regular premium savings plan.
- To ensure the tax-efficiency of the plan, you must continue
your monthly contributions for your chosen term. If this
isn't the case, any gains the plan makes may be subject to
tax.
- Tax rules may change and depend on individual
circumstances.
|
Ethical saving that helps to make the world a better
place
|
- Your contributions will be invested in the ethical section of
our With Profits Fund. This aims to disregard companies that are
substantially involved in arms manufacture, tobacco, pornography,
animal testing or gambling, for example.
- You can find out more about our ethical investing here.
|
Pay in £15-£25 a month
|
- Make the most of your child's £25 tax allowance by setting up
this regular savings plan.
- Pay in from £15 per month if you apply online, or £25 a month
if you apply by post.
- You should also be aware that inflation will reduce what the
child can buy in the future with the fund.
- Don't forget only a friendly society like Foresters Friendly
Society can give you these tax advantages through this type of
child savings account.

Potential for annual bonuses
|
- Not only is this an affordable child savings account, but
there's the potential for annual bonuses plus a final bonus on
maturity to be added to the value of the plan.
- Once bonuses are added to the basic maturity value, provided
the plan runs for the full term, they cannot be taken away and will
increase the eventual cash lump sum your child will receive.
- The addition of bonuses is not guaranteed and will depend on
the future investment performance and deductions from the ethical
section of the With Profits Fund, and how we decide to distribute
any profit. You may not get back what you have paid into the
plan.
- If you cash in during the first year you may get back less than
you paid in.

Potential for a higher rate of
return
|
- Due to the way the Ethical Child Savings Plan is invested, you
also have the potential for a higher rate of return (over the long
term) than with the Child Tax Exempt Savings Plan.
- As with all investments, please remember that past performance
is not a guide to future performance. Investments can
fluctuate and there is a possibility that you may not get back what
you have saved over the term of the plan.
|
Choose when your child receives their cash lump
sum
|
- It's up to you when your child receives their cash pay-out
(from aged 16 onwards and subject to a minimum 10 year term). So
you're in control of when they can access their cash lump sum -
this is much more flexible than our previous Child Trust Fund
product.
|
Automatic Member Benefits for your child
|
- When you take out an Ethical Child Savings Plan with Foresters
Friendly Society, your child will automatically gain access to our
unique range of added benefits - at no extra cost.
These include a number of discretionary grants for members
aged 16 and over who are in further or higher education or studying
for a recognised qualification, as well as savings and discounts on
some of the UK's top brand names. Discretionary benefits are
not regulated by the FSA
