Celebrating Youth Potential on International Youth Day 2025
12th August 2025 marks International Youth Day , a global celebration of the energy, creativity, and potential of young people. This year’s theme— “Youth Engagement for Global Change”—reminds us that meaningful involvement begins with opportunity and support.
At Foresters Friendly Society, we’re proud to help create those opportunities. Through our Society Membership and 189 Foresters branches, we empower young people across the UK to develop skills, give back, and grow into confident, compassionate leaders.
Why Youth Engagement Matters
- Only 17% of young people in the UK (aged 11–30) currently participate in social action or fundraising—down from 24% in 2023.
- Over 170,000 young people are waiting to join youth organisations due to a shortage of adult volunteers.
- Participation in structured programmes like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is rising—but access remains uneven
These figures highlight the urgent need for inclusive, accessible support systems that help young people thrive.
How Foresters Friendly Society Supports Young People
Grants for Education & Growth
Our discretionary Educational Awards can provide grants for members aged 16 and over who are in further education and studying for a recognised qualification. Up to £300 a year could be awarded, which will help towards the cost of books, travel expenses or other items.

Support Through the Child Support Fund
Many families face challenges that limit access to opportunities. That’s why we offer the Foresters Child Support Fund—offering discretionary grants that helps cover the cost of essentials and life-enhancing activities for children.
This fund can support:
- Children who are bereft of one or both parents
- Children who have parents that are incapacitated
- Children who themselves are incapacitated or are registered as having special needs
- Children who are carers

Belonging Through Local Branches
With over 180 local Branches across the UK, Foresters Friendly Society members can take part in social activities, fundraising, and volunteering. These inclusive spaces allow young people to:

All grants offered by the Society are discretionary. Qualifying periods apply. The membership benefits we provide aren’t regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority or the Prudential Regulation Authority and are regularly reviewed by us to ensure they are relevant to our members.
