Foresters Friendly Society appoints new Deputy Chairman

Foresters Friendly Society appoints David Furniss as a Non-Executive Director and Deputy Chairman

At its meeting on 12 November 2020, the Board of Foresters Friendly Society approved the appointment of David Furniss as Non-Executive Director and Deputy Chairman. It is expected that David will succeed the current Chairman, John Instance, on his retirement from the Board after serving almost nine years, at Foresters’ 2021 Annual General Meeting in June.

David has a 34-year affiliation with the mutual and friendly society sector. He recently served 13 years at Teachers Assurance Group where he was Group Chief Executive.  His commercial background originated in sales and marketing from which he brings a wealth of experience to Foresters’ Board including proven strategic vision, commercial judgement and strong communication skills.

David is Chairman at Benenden Healthcare Society Limited, a Friendly Society providing healthcare benefits to over 800,000 members.  He also holds a Non-Executive Director position at Bournemouth University and will continue to hold both roles in parallel with his role at Foresters.

John Instance said: “I am pleased to welcome David on to our Board.  With his skills and experience, I consider that David will make a significant contribution to the development of Foresters’ business strategy and provide leadership to our Management team in its implementation.”

In accordance with Foresters’ Society Rules, David will stand for election to the Board by its members at the 2021 Annual General Meeting.
