Foresters Friendly Society names Alzheimer’s Research UK as new charity for 2015/2016

Foresters Friendly Society, the Southampton-based member-owned mutual society, today announces that from 15th June 2015 Alzheimer’s Research UK will be the chosen charity for the Society’s annual President’s Appeal. Each year members of the Society raise money through the Foresters branch network which organises fundraising events and other initiatives to support the annual Appeal.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading research charity aiming to defeat dementia. The charity powers world class studies that give us the best chance of beating dementia sooner. Their pioneering work focuses on prevention, treatment and cure, and they believe that together we have the power to defeat dementia.

Dementia is not a natural part of getting older and is caused by diseases of the brain such as Alzheimer’s disease. Foresters Friendly Society is working to help raise awareness about dementia and how to reduce your risk of developing the condition through leading a healthy lifestyle.

Linda Levett, Foresters annual President for 2015/2016 said “Supporting charitable causes is an essential part of our work at Foresters, and I’m delighted that we will be focusing our efforts on dementia research for the next year. Dementia has a devastating impact for so many families across the UK, and many of us know people who are living with the condition. The answer lies in research, and that’s why I was keen to back Alzheimer’s Research UK during my year as President.

We have plenty of exciting fundraising events in the pipeline and both our members and staff are full of enthusiasm and love a challenge. Together I hope we can help improve understanding of dementia as well as giving research into the condition a much-needed boost.”
