How Sharon Is Helping Us Reach Our 982 Miles for Alzheimer’s Society

At the start of the year, we invited all Foresters members to help us cover a collective distance of 982 miles by 22nd June as part of our ongoing fundraising and support for Alzheimer’s Society – the charity chosen for our 2025/2026 Annual Charity Appeal.

We’re delighted to share an update from our colleague, Sharon, who has embraced the challenge with real enthusiasm and determination. In January alone, Sharon completed 88.75 miles through a mix of swimming, cycling and walking at her local leisure centre.

Her dedication doesn’t stop there. Sharon has been starting many of her walks at 6am, making the most of quiet mornings to get her miles in before the day begins.

Thank you, Sharon, for your fantastic support and for sharing an update on your progress so far.

Here’s Sharon’s story so far:

“My challenge began in the small hours of New Years Day, with a 1.3 mile walk home from an evening out! Now, nearly three months into my challenge to support the High Chief Ranger’s charity Alzheimer’s Society, I thought I would give you an update.

Through swimming, gyming and walking I have to date undertaken 202.96 miles.

  • In January, I completed 88.75 miles (8.45 miles swimming, 71.49 miles cycling and 8.81 walking).
  • In February, I completed 70.81 miles (2.22 miles swimming, 67.59 miles cycling and 1 mile walking).
  • Up to 20th March, I have completed a further 43.40 miles (1.16 miles swimming, 37 miles cycling and 5.24 miles walking).

It has only been the weather for ducks recently and I am more a ‘mad dogs and Englishman’ type of walker!

I am swimming and gyming at a local centre and walking locally in the wonderful parkland of Blenheim Palace. You can find me at the gym most mornings. I arrive for 6am opening, do my thing and get back ready for a day of work.

I am not aiming to cover the whole 982 miles on my own, but I just wanted to contribute where and how I can to the overall challenge. Originally, I pledged 10 miles – think I achieved that!

I know that every mile matters and will continue until our High Court/AGM in June.

I would like to thank family, friends, Foresters’ members and branches who have already supported me and this very worthy cause.

If you would like to offer your support through a donation, I would be very grateful, and you can do so via the link below.  Thank you, every penny counts.”
