Foresters launches its 2026/2027 Annual Charity Appeal to raise vital funds for Shelter

Foresters Friendly Society has officially begun its 2026/2027 Annual Charity Appeal, revealing that this year’s chosen cause is Shelter, a national UK housing and homelessness charity.

Each year, the Society appoints a new President – traditionally known as a High Chief Ranger – who selects a charity for the annual appeal and invites members of the Society to get involved through fundraising, awareness-raising initiatives and community-focused activities.

For 2026/2027, Bruce Hicks has been elected as President and shared the following remarks:

“I have chosen to support Shelter because the housing emergency in the UK continues to have a devastating impact on individuals, families, and communities. A safe, secure, and affordable home is the foundation of a stable life, yet for far too many people this basic need is not being met.

I look forward to supporting Shelter and championing their important work over the coming year.”

Shelter’s impact

Shelter works across every aspect of the housing emergency to provide both immediate help and long-term solutions.

Shelter’s expert advisers support people facing homelessness, eviction, or poor housing conditions, helping them understand their rights and access the help they need.

Through campaigning and legal action, Shelter challenges unfair housing practices and holds decision-makers to account, working to change laws and policies so that everyone has access to a safe, secure, and affordable home.

Shelter also conducts vital research into the causes and consequences of the housing emergency, using evidence to drive lasting change and influence national debate.

It is only through the generosity and commitment of supporters that Shelter can continue this essential work.

Funds raised by Foresters members throughout the year will go directly towards Shelters mission, helping to make a meaningful difference to the lives of people facing homelessness and housing insecurity across the UK.
